pro wrestler-turned-opposition lawmaker has traveled to the north for a four-day visit
. our kim hyun-bin has more. japanese lawmaker
antonio inoki arrived in pyongyang via beijing on monday for his second visit to the recl
usive country in as many months. while the details of inoki's itinerary were
not released he is scheduled to hold talks with senior officials from the workers' party
of korea. during his last visit in november he met with
jang song-thaek the once powerful uncle of kim jong-un making him the last known foreign
political figure to talk with jang before his execution in december.
so why another visit by inoki who's considered a wrestling legend in his home country of
japan and why now
experts say the north is trying to emerge from its isolated state through sports diplomacy
. however the regime remains closed off to exchanges
with its south korean counterparts. north korea recently rejected seoul's request
to hold reunions for families separated by the korean war but agreed to hold talks to
enhance systematic procedures at the gaese ong industrial complex.
a radio frequency identification system that will make it easier for south korean workers
to cross back and forth across the border ... is scheduled for completion some time
this week.
